Recycling
Elvis likes to take all the recycling out of the bucket, so he can lick the bottom of it. It's something his dad has let him do in the mornings and now he thinks he can do it when ever.
Jake really wanted it, but Elvis was not going to let him have it. Jake knows how to distract Elvis, he does this often. It's really funny. He goes to the window and barks, works every time. Elvis has to check out what Jake is barking at, so he leaves the milk jug in the middle of the floor.

Swimming
I couldn't take how bored the dogs all were so I let them swim. With Pete being away they have not been running for a while and I am trying to keep Jake out of trouble. Although he did get both my breakfast and dinner yesterday, I turned my back on him with my food on the counter, he's just that fast.
They love to swim, I don't give them any toys while they swim, because they tend to get to rough, they don't seem to mind they just like swimming. I kept Lucy and Abby inside since neither of them like the water so much. What Good Dogs

Jake's Bored
Our house is so quiet now that Christopher has left, he had to go back to the Army. Pete is also out of town, actually out of the country. All the dogs are bored, Jake is the one with the most energy that needs burned off.

Tortoise Paradise
I thought I show the tortoises today. They are African spurred tortoise that Chris got for his birthday, nine years ago.
Some of you may know that we had to separate them because they had babies. And we knew this would happen, but our research made us think it would happen when they were much older. We must have missed the part that said if they are really healthy they mate sooner in life. Luckily for us we found a great tortoise rescue to take the babies. So both have pens with heated sheds and room to roam around in. They mostly eat hay, and for treats they get prickly pear cactus, and strawberries, they love both of those things.
They are desert tortoises but they do still need water and shade. Our Sheila is so smart, she figured out where the sprinkler was hitting in her pen, she dug a hole and now has her very own pond. They like to sit in mud and fling it up on their backs, it keeps them cooler. It's really fun to watch
When we first put Steve out in the pen, he started digging and he has dug a hole underground so big we can't see him when he's all the way in it. We know he can turn around in the hole, so it must be big down there. And I'm pretty sure it's cool in the summer and warm in the winter for him. We turn on the heat in his shed in the winter but he likes his hole better, he has it totally lined with hay.
I figured Sheila had her own pond, Steve needed one too. I put a mister in Steve's. It's just a pipe with a mister that sprays a fine mist of water. I wrapped it around his palm tree so it would drip down from the fan palms and make him a little pond. He did not seem all that thrilled about it.
These tortoises should live 30 to 50 years possibly longer, and grow to be any where from 100 to 200 lbs. It least we hope so. They are Good tortoises.
This is how little they were when he got them, they were 10 days old they are sitting on a plastic lid for a bowl |
Chris planted this prickly pear for them when he got them, it produces huge pads and also fruit for them to eat |

Welcome Home
You've probably figured something was happening here, with our crazy week of photos. Some of you might have figured out that our Christopher is coming home from the Army for a visit, and WE ARE SO EXCITED WE CAN HARDLY STAND THE WAIT. I have been trying to figure out what the best outfits were to wear, cause I want to take the dogs to the airport to greet him home. I decided these are our
"Welcome Chris Home outfits"
Well okay, Pete says I cannot parade this unruly crowd through the airport, so they have wait at home, dressed like this till we get back. They are Good Dogs, so i'm sure they won't mess these outfits up while we are gone..........Right
We sure hope his flight is on time
